第七天堂

 齊卡·羅巴斯是巴黎街道上的一名下水道工人,他希望有一天能夠成為街道清潔工。雖然他很有自信,但他缺乏宗教信仰,覺得上帝總是讓他感到失望。離他上班不遠的地方,住著一個長得不好看的名叫迪安妮的女孩,她經常被她兇惡的姐姐娜娜無緣無故地打罵。每當娜娜覺得被生活欺騙了的時候,她就會拿起鞭子抽打迪安妮。有一次,迪安妮摔倒在水溝里,被娜娜扼住咽喉。齊卡沖出下水道,幫助迪安妮趕走了娜娜。后來,不幸的迪安妮決定用齊卡的刀子奪回自己的生活,但被齊卡阻止了。當警察譴責迪安妮的時候,齊卡再一次沖出來告訴警察,這個女孩即將成為他的妻子。警察不太相信他所說的,因為齊卡非常同情這個女孩,邀請她到他的公寓度過一夜。他的公寓在一座高樓的第七層,迪安妮稱之為“第七天堂”。與此同時,其卡得到了想要的工作,想做更大更好的事情,而迪安妮也因為齊卡的自信心而獲得了對生活的信心,不再恐懼生活。當她再一次遇到她的惡魔姐姐時,她姐姐想要帶走她,她奪下了娜娜的鞭子并且趕走了她。隨后,戰爭爆發,齊卡和迪安妮分開了很長一段時間,只能通過內心的思念保持聯系。一天晚上,齊卡被炸彈炸傷了,立即送了一個消息給迪安妮,那時她已經成為一名軍需品制造工。幕后制作這是一個基于奧斯汀·斯特朗戲劇的感傷愛情故事,在1927年發行之后,引起極大轟動,使得主演之一讓娜·蓋諾爾迅速成為了紅星,獲得了奧斯卡最佳女演員獎,成為獲得這種獎項的第一人。這部電影的成功甚至使得二十世紀福克斯公司在1937年將其配上了對白,修改成有聲電影版本。在部電影中,人物的情感生活是通過光影的絕妙使用表現出來的。對于空間的表現主義但經過充分美國化的使用,打破了各種經驗塑造的傳統視點,提供了一種嶄新的觀看方式,給人一種詩一般的想象。即便是后來版本的電影配音,也表明了導演波扎格的天賦才華。波扎格的這部電影既是一部美妙的情節劇,也可以被看作是一部十分優秀的另類的戰爭電影。

等待方舟

  Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart.  Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory?  n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in.  What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts.  On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired.  One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places.  Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.

得墨忒耳號的最后航程

  在《吸血鬼德古拉》小說原作者布萊姆·斯托克筆下的一章“船長日志”中,“得墨忒爾”是把德古拉從特蘭西瓦尼亞運到倫敦的船的名字——這艘俄國帆船運送著50個沒有標記的大木箱出發,而此后在英國海岸線上擱淺,破破爛爛,全船僅存一個瘋癲的幸存者。本片的故事將詳細聚焦得墨忒耳號的那趟可怕旅程:某神秘的乘客把船員們一個接一個屠殺。
